Helen Gertrude DesBrisay was born on a farm near Rozel, Kansas, February 21, 1886.

The family moved to Cripple Creek. Colorado when Helen was eight. They lived in Victor in a two-story log cabin. Her father's sister, Lucy, spent much time with the family and was an influence on Helen. She taught her needlework and table manners. She loved school.


After her junior year at U of C she taught school at Victor to pay for her senior year. During that year she met Will Jones and they became engaged. After she graduated from University of Colorado  they moved to Portland, Oregon.


Helen taught math and biology at Grant High School.

Helen died at age 102 on September 13, 1987.
